Saturday 12 November 8.00pm The ACADEMY CHOIR and ORCHESTRA J S BACH Mass in B minor We welcome back the Academy Choir and Orchestra after the success of Haydn’s ‘The Creation’ last year. This year they are joined by a stunning quartet of international soloists in what many people think is Bach’s great work. The Mass in B minor, the last work the composer completed, evolved over a long span of his life and represents his testament as a composer. Nancy Argenta, one of the finest of Bach singers, is flying in from Canada to rekindle her vocal partnership with the celebrated countertenor Michael Chance, who beguiled us with his recital last year – both were soloists in John Elliot Gardiner’s acclaimed recording of this work. Allan Clayton is one of the brightest of rising stars, winner of many awards, a BBC Young Generation Artist, a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, and rave reviews from Glyndebourne, the Festival Hall and around the world. Roderick Williams, who completes this remarkable quartet of soloists, is an exceptionally versatile artist whose intelligent musicality is much admired in music from Monteverdi to Maxwell Davies, and from opera, oratorio to the concert platform. TICKETS: £28/ £23/ £18 |
