RUSSIAN VIRTUOSI

Russian music is very much the flavour of the month in this centenary of the Russian revolution. The Festival programme features some ravishingly beautiful works by Borodin and Tchaikovsky written before the October Revolution, and Shostakovich’s most personal string quartet No 8 written as an epitaph after he reluctantly had to join the community party. A true masterpiece.
